Quick-witted hellion Lucianna Constantine has no doubt who was responsible for the death of her dear friend. And she will stop at nothing to expose his transgressions—and those of every despicable man in London. Lucianna has witnessed the cruelty of London’s beau monde her entire life…starting with her own father. So she is more than willing to singlehandedly take down every vile man that crosses her path.
Roderick Crofton, the Duke of Montrose, had his entire family fortune stolen when his father trusted the wrong men. After a scandalous article surfaces in the London Daily Gazette, written by the notorious Mayfair Confidential columnist, Roderick finds himself financially destitute, without a betrothed, and lacking the means to find the lords responsible for duping his sire. With little option left, Roderick has only one choice: find another wealthy heiress to wed. His quest brings him to Lady Lucianna Constantine, and soon, he can’t deny that he wants her for more than just her dowry.
However, Luci has secrets that could change everything. And when Roderick uncovers what those confidences entail, it could mean misfortune for all involved.
This is second book that I have read from this author, and now I can safely say that I have totally become her fan. Having said that I would like mention that I loved The Misfortune of Lady Lucianna a bit less than The Disappearance of Lady Edith, maybe because The Disappearance of Lady Edith had a lot of mystery and I always had a soft corner for anything suspense or mystery but this book didn’t have even a little bit of mystery.
Now jumping straight to the main characters. I loved both Lucianna and Roderick even more Lucianna. Lucianna is beautiful, witty, brave and someone who won’t allow any man to dictate her life. Then comes Roderick, he is a perfect gentlemen who loved Lucianna fearlessly and was always ready to save Lucianna whenever needed.
“In fact , she wanted nothing more than to be lost in Roderick’s embrace, sheltered from the cruel world around her. Away from the reach of Abercorn , and no longer her father’s pawn.”
This book is written in third person, with the narrative shifting between two point of views (Lucianna and Roderick). Like her previous book the author did a really good work in expressing both the character’s emotions.
Through course of the novel, there were some really funny moments that made me laugh out loud. But mostly it was a heartwarming, romantic tale that made me feel happy. I definitely enjoyed this love story of Lucianna and Roderick. Now I am waiting for the last installment of The Undaunted Debutantes series that will mark the end of the mystery surrounding Tilda’s death and reveal the murderer. I can’t wait to read who it is.
I would like to recommend this book to all historical romance lovers.
