Sea Babies Cover Reveal @Wildpressed   @authortrace  #LoveBooksGroupTours

Sea Babies

By Tracey Scott-Townsend

Categories: Psychological Fiction

Lauren Wilson is travelling by ferry to the Outer Hebrides, about to begin a new job as a social worker with the Islands’ youth. She’s also struggling to come to terms with a catastrophic event. When somebody sits opposite her at the cafeteria table, she refuses to look up, annoyed at having her privacy disturbed. But a hand is pushing a mug of tea towards her, and a livid scar on the back of the hand releases a flood of memories… Some people believe in the existence of a parallel universe. Does Lauren have a retrospective choice about the outcome of her terrible recent accident, or is it the bearer of that much older scar who has the power to decide what happens to her life now?
Set mainly in the Outer Hebrides and Edinburgh from the 1980s to the present, Sea Babies is a potent, emotional psychological drama that explores the harder aspects of relationships, as well as the idea of choice, responsibility and the refugee in all of us.

Excerpt

Oh No! I’m back. I am surrounded by inky black nothingness. The air is musty…damp, my nostrils fill with the smell of dank basement. Like in a haunted house, filled with saws and chains and bloody hooks, this is the perfect place for any psycho to hide his tools of the crazy trade. I’m trembling, from the all-encompassing fear, eating at every cell in my body.Where am I? My fingers search out for clues. Beneath me is a thin mattress on a hard surface. My head rests on a concrete-like pillow. My breathing escalates as the panic rises in my chest. I open my mouth to scream, but only a muted croak escapes. Over the thunder of my pounding heart, I hear a booming crack, a gunshot. I recognize the sound from a trip to the range with Jake years earlier.

I swing my legs over the side of my perch, thinking in my blind panic to run even though I cannot see. I can’t ignore this intense urge to flee. But my impulse is thwarted by an unknown restraint trapping my left arm, a rope? Panic has me in its grip. I gasp for air to fill my lungs but produce only whimpers and muted pleas.

A loud screech reverberates through the darkness. Rats? Oh, please, no rats! Could this get any worse? Hysterical, I yank relentlessly on the rope tethering me. With each tug, the line cuts deeper into my skin. My arm warms as blood seeps from the gouges, coating my hand and fingers. Behind me, the pounding sound of footsteps startles me. Before I can turn to confront my visitor, I feel the rush of air preceding the impact to the back of my head. A blaze of bright stars then, a different blackness envelopes me.

“Oh, bugger!” she muttered from her dressing room.

“What?”

“I’m stuck.” She giggled. “I’m going to find the sales lady to help.”

“No! I’ll help. Open your door.”

A few seconds passed before I heard the lock click. She opened the door and I walked in and locked it behind me.

“Zipper’s stuck.” She moved her hair so I could see.

I struggled with the zipper for a minute before working it loose. I pulled it down exposing the intricate tattoos down her back. “Wow…”

Pink flamed her cheeks. “Phases of our moon, Oro.”

I trailed my fingers down her back and she shuddered. It took everything in me not to lean in and kiss her. Our eyes met in the mirror. Her blue eyes were wide with curiosity and bright with anticipation. She tilted her head to the side just enough to expose the long line of her neck and that made my heart speed out of control. I closed the small space between us and let my lips touch her skin. Her breath hitched. She was so warm, so soft, and so perfect.

My lips trailed soft kisses up to her ear, she trembled and let out a low moan. I circled her waist with one arm to steady her. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my body. Every inch of my skin warmed.

Akacia turned so that we were face to face and her hand came up to cup my cheek. I rested my hands on her waist. Her gaze darted from my eyes to my lips. She muttered something about hesitation and then her soft, supple lips were on mine.

It was my turn to be surprised. Nobody had ever been so bold, but I was only startled for a beat before I seized her lips and deepened the kiss.

When Akacia pulled away the tiniest of moans escaped my mouth. A smile played on her lips that I swear tasted like honey. She tangled her hands in my hair at the back of my neck.

There was a knock on the door. “Do you need help?”

Akacia giggled and I answered, “No. Just another minute.”

What are You Like Cover Reveal @PascaleBientot  and #LoveBooksGroupTours

What are you Like

By Shelly Day

Cover designed by Ornamental Conifer

BLURB

These stories ask us: what are you like? Watch the characters grapple with what life throws at them, never quite sinking under the weight of it all. Shelley Day’s stories explore what we can’t quite grasp. They celebrate the uncertainties of language. The settings here are exquisitely imagined no-man’s-lands- at once strange yet oddly familiar. Here are worlds where the improbable becomes possible: a mother finds herself living on a library shelf, a diner finds words sliding from his menu into nothingness, a psychiatrist cracks up in front of his patient, and there’s a stain on the wall that won’t stop spreading. These extraordinary stories take us to the psychological hinterlands that make us who we are. What are you like? Do you know the answer?

‘These are real short stories from a real writer: full of the telling detail, the betraying detail, the immaculately-rendered thought… The title work alone is a visceral, unforgettable, punch-drunk joy. Read this book.’ A L Kennedy, award-winning novelist and short story writer.

‘Lucid, vivid, quirky, these interlinking stories teem with the stuff of life – always making the reader ask questions about family, loss, love – what is said, and what is not. The voices in this tender collection come bristling to life, fizzing and full. Fabulous.’ Jackie Kay, poet, novelist, short story writer, and Scotland’s Makar

‘This coruscating collection beautifully showcases Shelley Day’s twisting and turning talent. In one volume, we are immersed repeatedly into her magical worlds, emerging reeling yet ready for the next dip.’ Angela Jackson, award-winning novelist and script writer.

Auther Bio

With help from her best friend Tidoris, Ciaan stays away from trouble—and trouble stays away from her. But when a routine refueling turns into a revelation, Ciaan and Tidoris find themselves forced into an alliance with an Earth captain of questionable morality and his stoic, artificially-grown first officer. Their escalating resistance against bureaucratic cover-ups begins unraveling a history of human monstrosity and an ugly truth that Ciaan isn’t so sure she wants to discover.

REVIEW

Orbit is set in future where new metal planets have been made in order manage the over population of Earth. 78 yrs before the story starts, the first batch of Earth people were deployed to p-planets after which they have created a world of their own in different p planets. Our main character Ciaan belongs to a p-planet called Toi.

Orbit is full of adventure and mystery which kept me at the edge of my seat right from the very first page. I loved the backdrop of artificial planet and inter planet communications. I also loved the character of Ciaan and her friend Dori and their rock-solid friendship.

This science fiction is must read for all science fiction fans. And if you are not a sci-fi reader and would like to try something different then this is the book to buy.

Let It Snow: A Holly Grove Anthology

Publication Date: November 13, 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Holiday, Anthology

Read for FREE in KindleUnlimited: Amazon

Welcome to Holly Grove, Vermont, dubbed the “best little town in the country.”

It’s going to take the residents of Holly Grove a lot more than an evergreen and a few strings of lights to pull off their famous holiday tree lighting ceremony this Christmas Eve. First of all, Mother Nature is not cooperating with her plans to dump the Blizzard of the Century as a Christmas present. Not to mention that the Mayor and Sheriff are both distracted, native Holly Grovers brought their complications back home with them, and the newbies to the town are causing their own special types of ruckuses. Each resident will have to be brave, face their fears, accept changes, and embrace their pasts, to pull together and accomplish the sacred tradition of their small town—the adorably quaint, low on acreage but high on drama, Holly Grove.

Experience the true meaning of the holidays, fall in love, laugh, and cry in these eight novellas, each a full story on its own, with characters who pop in and out of each other’s lives. We think you’ll like it here…

About the Authors

In 2016, a group of multi-published and award winning authors found accountability on Twitter in reaching their writing and editing goals through the hashtag #ameditingcrew. A strong bond full of encouragement and friendship led to discussion that fall to write a holiday anthology. Unlike other anthologies, where stories are 100% independent, this group created a quaint, fictional town called Holly Grove, Vermont where their characters lived. Each story is a stand alone, but with a small twist: characters pop in and out of each story through cameo appearances. Pitched as an anthology with the small town feel of THE GIRLMORE GIRLS, and the woven story line like the movies LOVE, ACTUALLY and VALENTINE’S DAY, there is a little something for everyone.

“Are you late for something?” I was so focused on Tanya that I hadn’t even noticed that Ben Winters had walked up behind me.
I turned to face him. My palms started to sweat. I tried to covertly wipe them on my pants while praying he didn’t shake hands when he met people. “Not really. I’m just waiting for Tanya.”
“I think you may be waiting a while.” He gestured to Tanya with his head. I spun around and saw her walking out the door.
“Tanya,” I called loudly. “I need to talk to you.”
She held up her hand to me but didn’t glance back. “I have a few things to take care of. Catch up later.”
I looked back up at Ben and swallowed hard. “Guess you’re right.” I stared into his eyes. They were a deep chestnut brown. I forced myself to blink and look away. His shoulders were at my eye level. My head would fit perfectly into a shoulder as he rested his chin on my head. The rest of our body parts would fit together nicely too. I blinked again.
“I have to say, I really enjoyed your book.”
My cheeks hurt from grinning. “Thank you. I wasn’t sure anyone on the film would’ve read it.”
“Well,” Ben tilted his head. “I read it after I was sent the script. But I did enjoy it. And I think I like the book ending better.”
I glanced around to see who was nearby. Almost everyone had left. “I didn’t want to ask this earlier, but how is the ending changed?”
Ben looked at me for a second, confused. “You just read the ending.”
“I, uh, know,” I cleared my throat. “I’m just very nervous and couldn’t concentrate very well.” I hoped I appeared calm and in control.
“Laura stays in Mexico.”
“What?” I asked, a little too loudly.
“You didn’t read the script before today?”
“Honestly, I was too nervous. I know that sounds naive, but it just made me anxious. I assumed there would be changes, but nothing too major.”
“You signed off on all changes?” He waived his arm, indicating I should go before him.
“I guess so.” I shook my head. “It’s not that big a deal.”
“It just changes the whole ending,” he said nonchalantly.
“I’m really just along for the ride. None of this was supposed to happen.”
We walked out of the warehouse.

Hello I am here with a review of a poetry book No one Listens By Lady Byrd. Read on to know what I thought about the book.

No one Listens

By Lady Byrd

SYNOPSIS
This book features life experiences of a young poet coming into her truth. Finding the beauty and pain that comes with words. Expressing deep emotions, such as joy, humor, despair, and heartbreak. Ultimately leading to her awakening.

GoodreadsAmazon

REVIEW

This poetry collection is straight from the author’s heart. And when I was reading this poem I also found a great deal of my emotions laid out on the page too. I was able to connect to each and every poem and that is the best thing about it. Mostly I don’t read poetry books because I find them hard to understand, but with this book the emotions were very clearly and beautifully described.

If you are looking for a poetry book for great literature then No one Listens might not be for you but if you are looking for a poetry collection that you will be able to connect easily then you should definitely order a copy of No one Listens and read it with your next cup of coffee, curled up in a nice warm blanket.
